Training Programme
Teaching and Training
We have an active educational programme.
Friday afternoons are set aside as protected teaching time.
The third Friday of each month is a multi disciplinary perinatal morbidity meeting.
All trainees are given time to attend their F2, GP and regional training days.
Teaching also takes place on Tuesdays from 1-2pm in the Nicholas Antenatal Suite: download the schedule of topics for December 2019 to March 2020.
Audit and Research
There is a half day audit/clinical governance meeting every month. Participation in audit is actively encouraged and supported. We would expect all trainees to be involved with at least 1 audit per year.
Post Graduate Medical Centre and Library
QEQM has an active post grad centre and library. There is also a programme of formal post grad teaching across the different specialties including grand rounds. We have a well-stocked library and very enthusiastic librarians who are always willing to help.
College Tutor
Miss Zoe Woodward
Educational Supervisors
Trainees will be allocated an educational supervisor at the start of the year. We will endeavor to match trainees needs with the most appropriate supervisor and aim to contact trainees before they start to ascertain their needs for the year.

Overview
Welcome to O&G training William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford.
The delivery rate at WHH is about 4200 per annum. There is a co-located Midwife Led unit called the Singleton Unit. It offers birthing pools and other facilities to support natural births. There is a Level 3 NICU based at WHH.
We cover the special interests areas in O&G such as subfertility, fetal medicine & high risk obstetrics, colposcopy & rapid access, urogynaecology, risk management & audit. The regional Gynaecological Oncology centre for the whole of East Kent is based at Margate but there is a weekly oncology clinic at WHH.
Our unit offers excellent training opportunities in both obstetrics and gynaecology. We have an active education program which consists of locally delivered programs as well as joint meetings Trustwide for our Audit Education days. We have a SimMom and have introduced a program of simulation training in obstetrics emergencies. We have a Gynaecology assessment unit which will improve our ability to deliver ultrasound training as per the curriculum.
Regional training days are incorporated into the rota so that trainees are able to attend their training days without any problems. All our Educational Supervisors have QESP qualification. We have strong links with the KSS School of O&G and the College Tutors participate actively in recruitment and ARCP reviews. We have a well established Local Faculty Group with active participation by the trainees who give feedback on the training program.
Many of our trainees enjoy their training time with us and several have return to work in our units at different stages of their training years including as consultant. We hope that you too will enjoy your time with us and want to come back again.
