General Surgery - Mr Ashish Shrestha

"During your elective placement you will have vast experience in General Surgery. This includes reviewing and accessing both patients in acute and elective settings. You will be provided with the opportunity to attend outpatient clinics, Accident and Emergency, operation theatres, endoscopy etc. There will be ample of opportunity to actively participate in ward rounds, surgical handovers and colorectal multidisciplinary meetings. You will also be allowed to access patients in surgical emergency assessment unit (history taking, examinations etc). Formal and informal teaching will be organised during your placement. You will shadow junior doctors, foundation trainees, trust doctors and core surgical trainees. As a whole you will have the opportunity to understand the national health system of the UK. You will also be able to follow allied health professionals like Stoma Nurses, Dieticians etc. You will be supported by myself and our medical education department."
