Emergency Medicine

Overview

The Emergency Medicine posts allow trainees to develop skills in keeping with modern day practice of Emergency Medicine. We are a very friendly and dynamic Emergency Department led by a team of six EM consultants and ably supported by a dedicated Nursing and ancillary staff. The consultant body takes training and teaching very seriously and supports that in various capacities right from Educational supervision to taking leadership roles, i.e. ACCS leads and College tutor for Emergency Medicine. We are one of the few specialities who have formal twice-weekly teaching well embedded. We are very fortunate to have our own dedicated AV training hub which makes teaching a lot more fun and easy to arrange. We have now moved to a full monthly teaching day for our Registrars which will incorporate M&M meetings and teaching from guest consultants. The HSTs are supernumerary and have a separate rota which incorporates SPA time for their training and development. The EM juniors' rota has been recently increased to a 10 person rota which has improved the training experience vastly.

There is lot of emphasis on shop floor teaching and focused teaching at the 3 PM handovers which are always supervised by ED consultants.

I am sure that you will find your time in EM a highly rewarding and enriching experience.
