A number of medical posts in EKHUFT are hard to fill roles which the organisation is finding challenging to recruit to due to national shortages, geographical and other issues. In some cases, these roles are covered by high cost agency workers.

Recruitment and retention premia (RRP) are well established in the NHS and can be appropriately justified on the basis of hard-to-fill roles. RRP are subject to regular review and, in the event of an employee leaving within a specified period, repayment can be required.
