Medicine

As one of the largest trusts in the country, you will be able to work and train in one or more of 80 clinical specialties.  We run international courses in Gastroenterology and are a national PACES course centre for the Royal College of Physicians.  We are a regional  Primary PCI and the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit.  There is a wealth of experiential learning at East Kent, together with experienced and enthusiastic clinicians who are involved in education and training.

We treat each and every doctor training with us as an individual and we will ensure that you are supported to achieve your goals in your chosen career paths. We also believe that it is extremely important for you to enjoy your job!

Medical Specialities and postgraduate education

Why train and learn in the medical specialties at East Kent?

With two busy acute hospital sites at Margate and Ashford, and Canterbury providing subspecialties in Medicine, East Kent gives you a unique opportunity to work in many different areas.

We offer posts within the key major medical specialties including Ortho-Geriatrics, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Intensive Care Medicine, Stroke Rheumatology, Acute Medicine.  In addition, there are specialised areas, such as Neurology, Haematology and Renal Medicine at the K&CH hospital site.

Since COVID-19, our stroke unit has been based at the K&CH hospital site.

There is a strong educational focus around Medicine in both undergraduate and postgraduate training, with grand rounds, journal clubs and dedicated teaching that has helped give us achieve a high MRCP pass rate.

What our training doctors say

“Staff support here is excellent. I was eased in to my post very delightfully.

My Clinical Supervisor, Dr Lobo, is also an exceptional Physician. I have learnt a lot from him in these few months than I could ever have thought possible.

I find QEQM to be a very organised place to work in”
