The QEQM Hospital recently hosted the first two-day Kent ENdoscopy Training (KENT) course in Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection / Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (ESD/EMR), featuring endoscopic diagnosis and lesion recognition, hands-on ESD and EMR, and – in a significant technical achievement – live endoscopy video-linked from two theatres.

The event was convened by Zacharias Tsiamoulos, Consultant in Gastroenterology and Specialist in GI Endoscopy / Endoscopy Clinical Lead, and welcomed top surgeons from the UK and Japan, including Yataka Saito, Professor of Gastroenterology, NCCH, Tokyo, Japan; Roser Vega, Consultant Gastroenterologist UCLH, UK; and Iosif Beintaris, Consultant Gastroenterologist North Tees, UK.

It is anticipated that the KENT course will become a regular event operating under the auspices of the BSG (British Society of Gastroenterology) and the ESGE (European Society of Gastroenterology), open to delegates across the UK.
